A National Arms Co. No. 1 Deringer in .41 rimfire, serial number 720, made between about 1865 and 1870 with a 2-inch round barrel. Inside, the bore is dark, though traces of rifling can still be seen. The barrel wears a smooth grey patina and shows light surface oxidation, the factory markings remain sharp, and the brass frame rates very good, with a nice patina of its own. One mechanical fault is disclosed: the trigger does not engage the hammer, so the action does not work correctly.
This is a non-functioning antique and should be bought as one. It is not a carry or home-defense piece for a Texas buyer; the action fault alone rules that out. What it offers a collector is a sharply marked, original-condition example with a brass frame that displays well, and the serial number and markings are there for anyone who wants to research it further. Expect exactly the condition described, no more and no less.
