A cased pair of Belgian target pistols in .52 caliber, made around 1840, with 9.5-inch barrels showing a deep Damascus pattern finished in French grey. Engraving covers the lock, the hammer, the tang and the breech plug; the wood is rated very good, and the barrels carry Liege proof marks with the inscription Damas Dacier Superfin, meaning super fine steel, on top. The set comes in its original box, which is fitted for two pistols of a profile matching one of Devisme's designs. No serial number. Condition is used.
These belong on a Texas collector's shelf rather than in a holster. The draw is the complete set: both pistols, the engraving, the Damascus barrels and the original fitted case together, which is how such pairs were sold. They are not carry or defensive guns in any practical sense, and a buyer should treat them as antique arms to be studied and displayed, with the proof marks and barrel inscription doing the talking.
