A pair of English flintlock pistols by Richards, made about 1820 for the Middle Eastern market, with 12-inch barrels in .65 caliber. The barrels retain better than 80 percent of their original blue and are gilded with scrollwork and military motifs; the tangs are engraved in detail. Trigger guards and butt caps are hall-marked silver, relief-cast with crossed cannons among other martial designs. The stocks carry intricate silver wire inlay, and the ramrods are original with ivory tips. Condition is used.
These are display and collection pieces, not working guns for carry or home defense. The pair suits a Texas collector of English or export arms who wants a matched set with original ramrods, hall-marked silver furniture and most of the original barrel finish intact. The supplier describes them as a deluxe pair of the finest quality, and the level of gilding, engraving and wire inlay described supports that.
